Rebecca Knight is a lawyer and a retired judge now offering Legal Consulting and Mediation Services to governmental entities and lawyers throughout Western North Carolina. During her 22 years on the bench, including six in Unified Family Court, she had many accomplishments and was a catalyst for legal and judicial evolution in Buncombe County District Court. BUNCOMBE COUNTY TEEN COURT
Created the Buncombe County Teen Court Program in 1994, the first Teen Court program in North Carolina that served as a court diversion program for juvenile offenders.

One of three recipients of the 2004 Appalachian Service Award “established to recognize lawyers or judges residing in Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee or West Virginia who have throughout their careers displayed distinctive service to their profession and/or humanitarian community service”. The $1,000 cash prize was donated to the Buncombe County Teen Court and the Buncombe County Family Visitation Center.

The highest level of judicial training on Domestic Violence and Child Support “Train the Trainers” available in the United States from the National Council of Juvenile and State Court Judges in Reno, Nevada.
BUNCOMBE COUNTY TRUANCY COURT
I worked with Judge Pope and Buncombe County School officials to implement a pilot addressing school truancy with a multi-disciplinary approach. Volunteer in Buncombe County Schools to work with children, parents and school officials to address school attendance issues. Implemented a pilot program of the Louisville Truancy Project in several Buncombe County Public Schools.
BUNCOMBE COUNTY FAMILY VISITATION CENTER
Volunteered in a collaborative effort with other community leaders to develop a facility to provide safe exchanges for children in families with a history of domestic violence and to provide supervised and therapeutic visitations for children in need of protection from abuse or neglect.
